Can anyone give me some pointers on how to replace these headlamps and which parts I "need" the dealer is trying to sell me the whole unit for 180 bucks!

Is it just the bulb or is the igniter bad?

What is the year and model?

Depending on the car, both of the bulbs may be different. Unfortunately, those xenon bulbs are expensive.

The car is a 2007 XC70. I see the bulbs are at least 100. I just need to know how to get the bulb assembly apart and if I need buy both the lamp and the articulating assembly it fits into. not sure about the igniter it is my first experience with these bulbs.

Hope this helps. There should be a spring tension clip holding the assembly in place. Loosen it, pull back the whole assembly, remove the bulb by pushing down and turning. DON'T touch the bulb glass!!! Reverse to install. Easy as eatin lettuce, just peel back and chew.

Just a little side note, the color of the light will be different at first but will even out after a couple weeks.
