Members of the Virginia (Tidewater) Chapter recently attended "Classics on the Green" which is an annual event that takes place at the New Kent Winery near Richmond, VA . On Sunday, September 18 approximately 10 of us arrived at the Winery and were greeted by a wide variety of very fine vehicles. This event, which is sponsored by the Central Virginia British Car Club displays mostly European automobiles on one of the nicest "golf driving ranges" available. The space includes undulating hills, practice greens, sand traps and soft green grass. The cars are parked in groupings by marque. The location acts as a wonderfully natural "stage" for the event.
A small contingent of VCOA members met at a local rest stop on I-64 and traveled to the event "caravan-style". We are excited to announce that two of our members won awards at the show. Tony Scarola of Virginia Beach won a first place award for his beautiful PV444 which was once owned by his Dad. Stephen Venema won the "Fisher House Award" for his 1973 Volkswagen Thing (Stephen also brought a very nice Volvo to the show). We are very proud of our members who won and we are proud of our members who registered ..and showed their cars at the event.
Some of us departed the event and met at the local "Rose and Crown" restaurant for dinner. It was a great day and thanks to the success of our fellow VCOA members, we had plenty to celebrate. We plan on doing it again next year and hope that even more of our members join us for what we know will be a great event.
