I'm fairly new to Volvo ownership but I can boast of owning two of the rarest Volvo cars in North America.

Considered by some to be "orphans", others say "outcasts" & others might even consider them "Non-Volvos".

My Volvo stable includes a 1978 Volvo 66 GL Stationwagon and a 1978 Volvo 343 DL...both with CVT transmissions.
Both these cars were built at the Volvo plant in Born, Holland and privately imported here, because Volvo never offered these two models for the USA market.

I had both my "Orphan" Volvos at the 30th Anniversary Meet at Stratton Mountain,Vermont and had a blast talking to people about the cars...

On Saturday a package arrived from the VCOA.

Since they had not set up a class for misc., they awarded me this for the 343 DL.
Thank you VCOA. :)

Thank you, John, for bringing these rare and unusual (on these shores) cars to the show. This is part of what keeps our meets interesting.

Many thanks, I enjoyed myself at Stratton... :)

I don't know if there is any interest in seeing restoration work done to these cars?
Since there is no catagory for the 66 or 300 series I thought I would just link back to the DAF Club of America forum site where the informational stories (& photos) are posted.

The story of "Sweet Pea"...the Volvo 66 GL

For those of you who are not aware-These two particular Volvo models were original DAF (vanDoorne's Automobile Factory) designs in Holland and were introduced as Volvo models after the 1975 takeover of the DAF factory.

Just to give everybody a heads up...
Mark McCourt from Hemming's Motor News wrote a very nice article on the 30th Anniversary Meet in the current (March,2014) issue with lots of photos.

(only the first 2 pages shown here, there are more photos on pages 62 & 63) ;)
